New Moon in Sagittarius at the Galactic Centre

Seeds of Burden, Fire, and Cosmic Transformation

This New Moon in Sagittarius arrives not quietly, but with Cosmic intent. It forms at 28° Sagittarius, a single degree from the Galactic Centre, the luminous heart of the Milky Way. This is more than simply a lunar reset, it is a moment of reception, a listening point where something far larger than personal intention moves through the collective field.

Sagittarius, the seeker and the philosopher, holds the fire of meaning, and at these final degrees, the Archer is less concerned with conquest and more with truth. The arrow has already been released, we now are waiting to see where it lands.

This lunation marks the beginning of a transition toward the light, taking place on the threshold of the Solstice. The Sun is at its lowest arc, the darkness at its deepest, yet the turning is imminent. We are standing at a hinge of time, where endings and beginnings blur into one another.

A New Moon at the Galactic Centre

The Galactic Centre is not merely a point in the sky, in astrology it is associated with higher wisdom, spiritual insight and personal growth, a place where information from beyond our known structures enters the system. New Moons here function differently, they do not demand clarity or immediate action, but instead, they plant strange and powerful seeds that may take time to reveal their purpose.

Intentions set under this sky may feel heavy, uncertain, or even burdened and it may be because these seeds carry significance beyond the personal. They are aligned with long arcs of change, both internal and collective.

This is a New Moon that asks not “What do I want?” but “What is moving through me now?”

Fire at the Threshold

Sagittarius fire is expansive, visionary, and restless, yet at 28°, this fire is tempered by the approaching gravity of Capricorn, where the enthusiasm of the quest gives way to responsibility, structure, and consequence.

The Solstice arrives the day after this New Moon, amplifying the sense of transition as we leave one cycle and prepare to step into another, though the shape of what comes next is not yet fully visible. Think of this is sacred pause a stop in liminal space rather than a forward charge.

Venus and Mars Combust

The Alchemical Wedding Begins

Both Venus in Sagittarius and Mars in Capricorn are combust the Sun during this lunation. Combustion is a state of purification under the fire of the Sun the planet is consumed by solar fire, stripped of excess, and reduced to essence. What survives the burn is what is true, the dross is burned off and the gold remains.

Venus and Mars together speak of the sacred feminine and sacred masculine, desire and action, value and will. Their combustion signals the beginning of an alchemical process rather than its completion, their union is underway, but still in the furnace.

This process culminates with the Venus and Mars Cazimi in early January 2026, when Venus and Mars will sit in the heart of the Sun and be reborn, Venus as the Morning Star and Mars as the Evening Star. For now, we are in the refining stage, where our old patterns of relating, wanting, striving, and asserting are being quietly undone so something more integrated can emerge.

Mars Exalted in Capricorn

Focused Fire Under Pressure

Mars is exalted in Capricorn, giving strength, endurance, and strategic power. This is Mars with Capricorn the builder, the climber, the one who knows how to turn effort into form. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and he demands patience, method, and restraint. Here lies the tension, Mars wants movement and Saturn wants timing.

This can manifest as frustration, especially around work, responsibility, or authority structures. Oppressive conditions may feel heavier now, particularly where effort is demanded without recognition or meaning. The body may feel the strain of being asked to carry too much for too long.

And yet, this is not a weak Mars, it is a Mars learning discernment and not every battle deserves energy, nor is every task yours to complete under Saturn’s Weight.

The Ten of Wands and the Burdened Seed

This New Moon falls in the third decan of Sagittarius, ruled by Saturn and associated with the Ten of Wands, the Lord of Oppression and Burden. It is further intensified by a square to Saturn in Pisces.

We may be planting seeds under the pressure of emotional weight, spiritual fatigue, or collective grief which may accompany this lunation. There is a sense of carrying more than one person should, more than one lifetime should require.

The medicine here is discernment, Mars and Saturn together ask a vital question, which burdens are necessary and which are inherited, imposed, or outdated?

This New Moon does not ask you to drop responsibility entirely, it asks you to choose responsibility consciously.

3I/Atlas

The Messenger from Beyond the Galaxy

Adding to the strangeness of this moment is the anomalous interstellar comet 3I/Atlas. Making its closest pass to Earth on December 19, it entered our system through the Galactic Centre itself, passing through the constellation of Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer.

Serpents are a symbol of profound transformation, healing, and ancient wisdom. A visitor from beyond our galaxy, carrying information shaped long before human memory. In astrology and myth, comets have always been omens, not of fear, but of change that cannot be ignored.

3I/Atlas was discovered on July 1 whilst the Sun was in Cancer, known in Ancient Astrology as the gateway through which spirit enters matter. When it passes Earth, it does so in Leo, the realm of the heart, sovereignty, and creative fire. One cannot help but think of the Sphinx, eternally gazing toward Leo, guardian of forgotten thresholds, as if awaiting this arrival.

Seeds for a Changing World

This New Moon does not belong to the individual alone it belongs to a time of global transition, systemic collapse, and profound reimagining. The seeds sown now may not bloom quickly, or neatly, or even recognisably.

Yet they matter.

Transformation often begins under weight, in darkness and near endings and the Galactic Centre does not promise comfort, it offers a call to alignment.

As you move through this New Moon, allow yourself to release unnecessary burdens before setting intentions. Let discipline replace force. Let devotion replace exhaustion. Trust that even under pressure, something intelligent is forming.

The Archer releases the arrow, but first listens for the signal from the stars.
